Beginning of the Five Days

After viewing K’s body, the battle with reality began. What type of funeral? Which funeral home we should book for? We had many decisions. 

My husband and my ex-husband, we had never imagined they would meet for the first time in a circumstance like this. Feeling desperate to take K’s body back home ASAP (this is a custom in Japan), three of us discussed hard and decided on funeral details. 

To our surprise, we were told by the funeral home that the ceremony would not take place until five days later, and K’s body would be kept with them until then. I was upset we couldn’t take his body back with us, and they did not schedule his ceremony sooner, however, those five days gave me opportunity to mourn. As the result, mourning process calmed my heart a little. 

Those five days as a preparation and waiting period, I believe, was the work of K. He orchestrated it for us. 

At the funeral home, the resting room in which K’s body stayed was cozy and beautiful. We were all able to visit and spend five days of quiet and tranquil time with K at rest.

Birthday Present from K

This article was originally posted on September 26, 2011🍀 My birthday is July 2. Without any apparent reason, my back started to hurt badly a few days prior to my birthday. Yes, I have had back pain before, but it had never been this severe. I decided to go see an orthopedic doctor/chiropractor to feel better so that I could keep taking care of my little girl and working as a PTO board member at her school. I was very busy at that time. On July 1st, I saw an orthopedic technician whom one of my best friends, A, recommended to me. I was given an acupuncture treatment as well as physical massage. On my way home, I was thinking to myself, "How unlucky I am!  Tomorrow is my birthday and I had to go visit a clinic for my back pain. K, let me know if this does have any meaning." This article was written on October 25, 2011 🍀 Currently, I am a homeroom mother for my daughter's kindergarten. I usually do my work in the parents' room on the second floor. The parents' room has a big window with curtains. When you open the curtains, you can see the play ground right below. The other day, looking out the window alone, I saw my daughter running outside to play. I peered through a crack in the curtain and watched her play for a while. She was chatting with friends, dancing excitedly, and smiling happily. I found myself smiling also while watching my daughter play. And, that was when I realized.
